Peter Nabholz is the main caretaker of the outdoor rink in Moosomin, Sask. Involved with the rink for over 20 years, Peter is an unsung hero in the community.
Every day he maintains the rink, flooding it on cold winter mornings from 6:30 to 6:45 a.m. to ensure the ice is ready for use. This daily task adds up to between 150-200 hours throughout the winter season. It takes passion, dedication and a commitment to community development to do this kind of selfless work. But here’s the payoff: every day the rink has people on the ice, whether to skate outside or play hockey.
Peter’s contributions to his community provide opportunities for everyone looking for some outdoor fun in Moosomin, from hockey players to people just wanting to skate away the winter blues. Not only that, but his daily dedication has put Moosomin on the map for having a top notch outdoor rink!
“As a volunteer, I know how rewarding it is to donate your time and skills to a worthy cause. The parks and recreation industry relies on the work of dedicated, committed, and passionate volunteers, without whom our communities wouldn’t be as vibrant or strong. Thank you to all who continue to give freely so everyone can enjoy the benefits of parks and recreation.“ - Jody Boulet, President, Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association
