Patterson Park is a waterfront park located in the heart of downtown La Ronge, and is the most popular site in town for facilitating outdoor activities and events. This community-focused space has something for everyone.
Throughout the warmer season, Patterson Park offers a public boat launch, tennis court, playground, public beach with volleyball nets and an outdoor walking path. In the winter, the Park features a skating rink on the lake to facilitate public skating, shinny and even Crokicurl
For the 2022-23 season, La Ronge’s Parks and Recreation department constructed a full-sized skating rink on the lake with a smaller section for learning how to play Crokicurl. Installing weather-proof LED strips into the ice made this space accessible 24/7 and it is a great space to see the northern lights on a clear night.
Said one participant, “We love skating on the beach at night! The lights in the ice are beautiful.” Said another, “I’ve never seen a full-size outdoor rink like this before!”
On the other side of Patterson Park, the Town of La Ronge Community Services department reimagined the use of the walking trail and built a skating trail loop. This trail is connected to the skating rink on the lake, so skaters can enjoy the entire park.
With success in both organized events and casual skaters at the Skating Trail, the Town looks forward to including Patterson Park Skating Trail as part of our annual winter programming.
“‘We’ve been waiting many years for the Town to make a skating trail like this,” said one resident after experiencing this new opportunity. “Thank you for creating one.”
