Over the past 12 years, we have been lucky to have Wendy McKellar as part of our Team, and now we share in Wendy’s excitement as she retires on March 31, 2022!
Wendy grew up on a farm in Southwest Saskatchewan, and is incredibly proud of her rural roots. Following graduation from the College of Physical Education at the U of S, Wendy began her career as Recreation Director in Coronach, followed by 20 years as the Recreation Director for the Town of Outlook. It was these grassroots experiences that provided tremendous opportunities for Wendy to gain knowledge within the Recreation and Fitness industries, and which brought new experiences to SPRA when she joined the Team in 2010.
As Consultant – Physical Activity and Fitness, Wendy has been the incredibly strong, flexible and enduring lead of the Portfolio, which supports over 400 Fitness Leaders in Saskatchewan! Wendy’s leadership has guided the delivery of 12 SaskFit Conferences and numerous training courses! Beyond Fitness her dedication of expertise, consulting abilities, and genuine interest in being available has supported individuals and organizations across the Parks and Recreation Industry.
Within our Team, we are going to miss Wendy’s competitive nature, her daily (and sometimes hourly) weather reports, and her keen ability to remember exactly what she was doing and where she was on “this day in 1988.”
Wendy has supported the parks, recreation and fitness industries so well, as not only an advocate, programmer, and mentor but also as a passionate volunteer and community leader. Her volunteer efforts as an SPRA Fitness Leader will continue, and you may even run into her at a future SaskFit Conference, but this time as a participant!
We cannot thank Wendy enough for her contributions and dedication to SPRA, not only in the past 12 years, but over her entire career. We wish her all the best as she enjoys a new life of leisure with her husband and family! Enjoyment is sure to be had with time to camp, golf, garden, walk and all the things she loves to do!
