The Sask Recreation Awards pay tribute to the outstanding contributions of individuals, organizations and  communities , and agencies who improved the quality of life for others through recreation in Saskatchewan. 

We’re proud to celebrate award winners from across the province and admire the impact they make to ensure everyone has an opportunity to be active, get involved in programs, enjoy our parks, and connect with nature.  

Award winners receive:  
  • Recognition from SPRA across social media, e-newsletters, our website & more!  
  • A promotional video celebrating the award winner. 
  • Custom-made trophy to showcase the achievement. 
  • A legacy incentive in the amount of $1,000 to be applied towards a local recreational program or service of their choosing. 

Award Categories

Farm it Forward (Mossbank, SK)
Community Wellbeing Award

Farm it Forward is a charitable non-profit organization established in 2017 and run by local farmers with a mission to enhance community well-being through collective efforts. 

Over the years, Farm it Forward has donated over $300,000 to Mossbank and surrounding areas, funding essential facility repairs, supporting educational, cultural and recreational initiatives like the creation of a 3km walking trail in Mossbank to encourage active living.

The Community Wellbeing Award honours any community or municipality in Saskatchewan for an innovative and successful recreation or parks project that contributed to improved social wellbeing for people in their community. This can include anything from addressing inclusion and access to environmental stewardship, supporting active living policies and programs, or improving tourism or economic development opportunities.     
 

Ashlyn George (Saskatoon, SK)
Leadership Excellence Award

Travel writer and former Saskatchewander, Ashlyn George is best known for her online platform ‘The Lost Girl’s Guide to Finding the World’, where she authored dozens of articles highlighting Saskatchewan and its people and places. Through her passion and dedication, Ashlyn significantly advanced recreation and tourism in Saskatchewan. She has connected communities, celebrated local culture and inspired a global audience to discover the unique spirit of our province. 

The Leadership Excellence Award honours an individual employed in the recreation and parks industry in Saskatchewan who demonstrated exemplary leadership within their organization or community. “When making extraordinary things happen in organizations, leaders engage in what we call "The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership:" modelling the way, inspiring a shared vision, challenging the process, enabling others to act, or encouraging the heart.”- James Kouzes and Barry Posner, The Leadership Challenge.


Dean Heuchert (Wynyard, SK)
Volunteer Champion Award

Through his volunteer efforts, Dean Heuchert led a Committee to secure thousands of dollars in sponsorships to fund the overall renovation of the Wynyard Composite High School’s football field. 

Dean spent hundreds of hours tearing up the existing field, installed new irrigation, laid down new soil, re-planted grass, installed exterior lights and now overlooks the maintenance of the field. The renovated field now allows everyone to have a safer and more enjoyable place to play and have fun! 

The Volunteer Champion Award honours an individual who contributes a significant portion of their leisure time to the recreation and parks industry improving the health and wellbeing of individuals, their community, or the environment.
